Specialized Treatment Approach for Adults (18-64)

Acadia Healthcare’s prominent network of treatment facilities provides multiple types and levels of care for adults age 18 and older who have been struggling with all types of mental and behavioral health disorders, including substance use. Adults can receive comprehensive, personalized care at facilities throughout the Acadia network.

Personalized Treatment for Adults

Treatment facilities within the Acadia Healthcare network offer superior clinical services and comprehensive therapeutic support to adults of all genders whose lives have been impacted by substance abuse, addiction, and other types of mental and behavioral health challenges.

The impact of mental and behavioral health disorders can vary widely from person to person. Even two adults who are struggling with the same disorder may have widely divergent experiences and require different types and levels of care. For these reasons, Acadia programs are committed to providing personalized care for all adults age 18 and older.

This commitment to personalized care is evident even before an adult is admitted to an Acadia facility. When you first contact an Acadia facility to inquire about treatment for yourself or a loved one, the representative with whom you speak will begin to gather basic information about your needs and goals, or those of your loved one. This is done to ensure that the facility you’ve contacted is prepared to provide the type and level of care that you need.

Once you’re admitted, one of your first activities will be to complete a thorough assessment. This will provide your treatment team with the information that they need to develop your personalized plan. Throughout your time in an adult treatment facility within the Acadia network, your team will continue to monitor your progress and, when necessary, refine your personalized plan so that you are getting maximum benefit from the services you are receiving.

Acadia’s dedication to personalized treatment extends beyond the time that you spend at the facility. Prior to transitioning out of care, you’ll receive a detailed discharge plan. This document will identify the professional referrals, community-based services, peer groups, and other resources that will best support your efforts to maintain and build upon the progress that you made at the Acadia facility.

From the day you first contact an Acadia facility until long after you’ve completed your time in treatment, our commitment to personalized care will be a central factor in your continued success.

Benefits of Treatment for Adults

Depending upon the nature and severity of an adult’s struggles with mental or behavioral health disorders, the impact can include minor to major impairments in virtually all areas of life.

Mental and behavioral health challenges can undermine an adult’s ability to form and maintain healthy relationships. This, in turn, can lead to withdrawal, isolation, and the loss of essential interpersonal support at a time when it may be most needed. Many adults who need but do not receive effective care for mental or behavioral health concerns experience setbacks in school or at work. This can lead to job loss, chronic unemployment, financial instability, diminished self-esteem, and loss of self-confidence.

Adults age 18 and older who are living with certain types of mental or behavioral health disorders are also at increased risk for a wide range of co-occurring disorders. The presence of co-occurring disorders can add significant complications to an adult’s life.

However, when an adult makes the courageous decision to get professional help for a mental or behavioral health disorder, they reduce their risk for continued harm and can begin to heal from past damage.

Treatment for mental and behavioral health challenges at facilities within the Acadia Healthcare network also offers the following benefits:

At the inpatient and residential levels, you’ll have the opportunity to step away from the stresses and pressures of daily life and focus on your health.

Partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and traditional outpatient services can support you as you transition out of treatment and begin to resume a more fully independent lifestyle.

Individual and group therapy are supportive environments in which you can process successes and setbacks, learn from the experiences of others, share your insights, practice healthy communication skills, gain valuable information about the disorder you’ve been dealing with, and receive focused feedback from experienced professionals.

Family therapy, family education sessions, and other family support services can help your loved ones process how they’ve been impacted by your struggles. These services can also help you and your loved ones learn how to better support one another during and after your time in treatment.

Experiential therapies offer dynamic ways to express your thoughts and feelings, cope with stress, develop greater physical and mental strength, and occupy your leisure hours.

If you’ve been struggling with substance abuse and addiction, education about the 12-Step Recovery Model, SMART Recovery, LifeRing, and other recovery support systems can introduce you to the power of the global recovery community and provide you with a functional framework through which you can successfully achieve long-term abstinence.

Discharge planning services can ensure that you’re connected with the community-based resources that will help you maintain and build upon the progress you made while in treatment at a facility within the Acadia network.

Levels of Care Offered Through the Acadia Network

Depending upon your needs, the optimal treatment experience for you may involve one or more of the following levels of care:

Inpatient treatment is a short-term experience for adults age 18 and older who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental or behavioral health disorders. Inpatient treatment can help you achieve stabilization so that you can return home or transition to a lower level of care.

Residential treatment features round-the-clock care and an array of personalized interventions, with the added benefit of being able to remain in treatment for weeks or even months. Residential treatment offers the comprehensive support that can help you take significant steps on your recovery journey.

Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) offer treatment during weekday mornings and afternoons. Evenings and weekends, you can return home or to a supported residence. You benefit from a structured therapeutic program while having the opportunity to practice your developing skills in a non-treatment environment when you’re not participating in care.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) allow you to take part in two to four hours of daily treatment, two to four days per week. This provides increased opportunities for independent experiences while still retaining a connection to structured therapeutic interventions.

Traditional outpatient services allow you to schedule sessions with a therapist or counselor at the frequency that’s right for you. Traditional services offer ongoing support to you and other adults who have completed treatment for mental or behavioral health challenges at higher levels.
