As updates on the impact of the coronavirus continue to be released, we want to take a moment to inform you of the heightened preventive measures that Acadia has put in place at all of the facilities within our treatment network. These measures have been implemented with the sole purpose of keeping our patients, their families, and our employees safe. All efforts are in strict adherence to the recommendations and guidelines distributed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Acadia’s corporate quality and compliance teams, in conjunction with our chief medical officer, proactively monitor federal, CDC, and WHO updates as they are released. Additionally, they monitor local and regional updates based on the locations of our facilities. All information received is then communicated globally so that everyone at both the corporate and facility levels are following proper protocols.
Infection Prevention and Control
Within our facilities, all staff members have received infection prevention and control training, as well as thorough disinfection and hygiene guidance. There are strict procedures for cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces, and cleaning service contracts were extended for additional support. Patient care supplies are monitored and utilized, and personal protective equipment items are routinely checked to ensure proper usage, guarantee secure storage, and keep inventory lists up to date. Per the updated recommendations offered by the CDC, we are implementing use of cloth facial coverings to protect others from the transmission of the coronavirus. Additionally, CDC informational posters are on display throughout our buildings to provide important reminders on proper infection prevention procedures.
Screening Measures
Screening protocols have been heightened to ensure that anyone who is presenting with possible symptoms of the virus does not enter our facilities. Additionally, routine monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19 in both patients and staff is required.
Social Distancing
Social distancing strategies have been implemented so that patients and staff maintain a distance of no less than six feet away from one another at all times. Adjustments have been made for group therapy settings and other highly trafficked areas so that no one is placed at risk. Staff and patients are monitored to ensure that these protocols are never broken and to maintain accountability.
Telehealth Services
In compliance with state and federal regulations, visitation has been suspended at all of the facilities within our network. This is a necessary measure that was taken to protect our patients and staff and reduce the risks associated with COVID-19. However, because we know how important it is that our patients have the support of their family members and loved ones, we are offering telehealth visitation services via phone and virtual communication platforms when clinically appropriate.
Telehealth services are also being utilized for assessments and certain outpatient programs, including a number of partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs throughout our network. By offering telehealth assessments, we are able to connect individuals with the treatment resources they need without them having to leave the safety of their homes. Similarly, our telehealth programming services give patients the ability to engage in programming without needing to step outside of their residences. For facilities located within states that are remain under stay-at-home mandates, telehealth programming prevents patients from being forced to miss their treatment sessions.
Acadia’s Crisis Line
In response to the increasing need for behavioral healthcare treatment, Acadia has created a behavioral healthcare crisis line. Staffed by trained advisors, those who contact this crisis line will be provided with the resources and treatment recommendations they need, or will be connected with first responders in emergency situations. This toll-free line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can be reached by calling:
1-833-TREATBH (873-2824)
As our society continues to navigate these unprecedented times, Acadia Healthcare will remain diligent in ensuring the safety of our patients and staff while continuing to offer the clinically excellent care for which our facilities are known.
